Question: What was the fruit that Adam and Eve at?
Answer: The fruit is a representation of the devil's sin. The fruit that the man and woman ate was the forbidden sin of disobedience, Adam and Eve went against the will and word of God their father and became sinful human beings, for God created man and woman to live in righteousness only.
Also remember the Bible is both literal and figurative, and in this case, we can apply the figurative. The two trees are representative of Jesus and the Devil, the Tree of Life (Jesus) and the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil (the devil) God was telling Adam not to take from the hand of the devil for in doing so he would bring death upon himself.
And yet the man and woman consumed the forbidden.
According to Galatians Ch. 5 the fruit of the Spirit and the fruit of the devil is as follows, and we can assume that in the Garden of Eden the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil produced such fruit. (We can also look at the Ten Commandments, the Commandments of Jesus, Colossians 3:12-14, Ephesians 5:3-7 for more).
